Glycemic load and coronary heart disease in a Mediterranean population: The EPIC Greek cohort study.

A high dietary glycemic load increases the risk of coronary heart disease (HR 1.4). A low to moderate glycemic load diet that also conforms to the Mediterranean diet is estimated to result in a 40% reduced risk for coronary heart disease, and a 50% reduced risk for death from coronary heart disease.  (Nutr Metab Cardiovasc Dis. 2014 Dec 11. pii: S0939-4753(14)00348-2.)
